Has anybody been wondering where the “Elephant in the Room” is?
What a great summer furlough we’ve had. In these past three and a half months we were able to visit several of our churches, see some supporters (and add some new ones!) and we’ve had some really sweet times with our family and friends. But we wanted to let you know that the elephants are back doing what elephants in Africa do!
Great news! Although the monthly support we needed to raise came up a little short, we had some amazing one-time gifts. So we’ve decided to divide the one-time gifts over the next two-year period which gives us the support we need to return to the field. We are thrilled to once again see God provide. Thank you for your part in helping us get there.
Ending a furlough is always filled with mixed emotions. This time it’s especially hard as we just took our youngest daughter Morgan to college in Florida. She is doing so well… all grown up now and ready for this next part of her life. It’s just Nancy and I trying to get ready for this next phase of life!
As we depart, here’s how we are praying – would you join us? We covet your prayers and praise God for our partnership in ministry with you.
1. Pray for Morgan — us too. Morgan began her classes and new job today, and when we leave on Wednesday, it will be the first time that Nancy and I will return to South Africa without any of our girls. Honestly, the “empty nest thing” feels really sad right now.
2. We are anxious to get back into leading the ministries in South Africa, back into a weekly preaching schedule, and shepherding the dear people at Mountain View and our ABWE missionary teams. Pray for a smooth transition, for an exciting 10th anniversary celebration at Mountain View and our annual missions conference that will begin shortly after our return.
3. Lastly, would you pray with us for our church plant, Mountain View, to move to the next level and begin planning for a future church plant as well as community development outreach ministries. With that, we also are praying for wisdom to know where we can help lead ABWE into other parts of Southern Africa.
Does that sound like a tall order to you? It does to us, too. You know, as we head out this week, these words from Jesus feel just a real to us as they must have felt to those who watched Him and heard Him communicate His heart for lost people…
“Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Matt. 9:35-38)
Love ya and we praise God for all of you, Tom and Nancy
