This past Sunday we started one of our favorite annual events at Mountain View – our Missions Conference. With our theme, Awaken My Soul… To Share Life, Tom opened the conference with some vital and practical reminders from Jesus’ own life on how He shared eternal life with the Samaritan Woman in John 4.
We are looking forward to the next six weeks when we’ll have different missionaries, whom we support, sharing their ministries with us. From a South Korean, Pastor Kim, who works with the South African homeless to a fellow ABWE missionary church planter, Pastor Jim Miller, ministering in an informal settlement. We have also invited a couple of our RSA church planting pastors and our son-in-law, Wade McComas, who works with Tara as missionaries at an orphanage academy called Bridges of Hope. The conference is sure to be a blessing.
The first week was already such a neat blessing, that’s because in addition to Tom speaking, we had a very special guest speaker. Our daughter, Chelsea, was with us to present her recent ministry trip to Karanda Mission Hospital in Zimbabwe. Chelsea spent the month of June in Zimbabwe along with three other nursing students from Cedarville University and their instructor. Her presentation pictures spoke a “thousand words” but what she shared from her heart is what made the day so special. Chelsea struggled to
deal with the pain and suffering of the people she came to help, realizing again that God did not create the world to suffer in this way. She was challenged to comprehend what Romans 8:18 reveals, that our temporary suffering is nothing when compared to our eternal hope in glory. Chelsea communicated that we serve and we share life, not so that we can save the world and alleviate earthly pain and suffering, but so that we can share the hope we have in Christ for eternity.
May the Lord, Awaken Our Souls to Share Life! As we share the amazing love of Christ with people, may they come and drink from His living fountain. Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.” (John 4:13-15)
